Chapter 8: The Tree of Wisdom

And I saw a beautiful tree whose fragrance was good, and whose leaves and blossoms were fair.
And I asked the angel concerning this tree: 'What is this tree, and what is its name?'
And he said unto me: 'This is the tree of wisdom, of which thy righteous father ate, and learned great knowledge, whereby the length of life is increased.'

The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground — trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

And I saw another tree, terrible and frightening to behold, whose fruit was poison, and whose leaves were as the leaves of a fig tree.
And this is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, which is planted in the midst of the garden of the Lord.
'Whosoever eateth of this tree shall surely know both good and evil, and shall be subject to death.'
